The Defence Headquarters says the military will ensure that its personnel injured in the ongoing special operation to rid the country of Boko Haram and other terrorist activities get the best medical treatment.
This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, the Director, Defence Information.
The statement said that the Chief of Defence Staff, Adm. Ola Ibrahim, said this in Maiduguri while presenting cheques to families of some of army personnel who died during the operation.
It quoted Ibrahim as saying that the military authorities would secure necessary treatment for its personnel who were injured during the operation.
He promised that officers and men who lost their lives in the conflict would not die in vain.
Ibrahim said that the armed forces and other security agencies in the country were proud of the achievements of the troops.
He also conveyed the greetings and commendation of President Goodluck Jonathan, who he said, was very keen to know how the troops were faring.
The CDS praised the troops for reversing the “traumatic experience” which the people in the affected states went through as a result of terrorist’s activities.
He urged the troops to maintain their alertness and fighting spirit and assured them that their welfare and logistics requirements would be given priority attention.
The statement said that the CDS and the Inspector General of Police, visited some of the wounded soldiers and security personnel at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Dr Mohammed Alli, who stood in for the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, at the occasion, commended the military authorities for paying attention and taking care of the wounded troops.
He said that the hospital had derived encouragement from the disposition of the leadership of the military.
He also praised the security personnel for their commitment and sacrifices to restore peace in the state.
In his remark, the I-G, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, harped on the need to sustain inter-service coordination in the operation.
The Nigerian armed forces have been busy in the past years trying to check the activities of the extreme Boko Haram sect.
