PHCN pole electrocutes 28-year-old electrician

The man climbed a pole to fix an electric fault when PHCN.
A 28-year-old private electrician, Chukwuebuka Eze, was electrocuted in Apata Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday.
Mr. Eze, who just got married, climbed a pole near his shop to fix some naked wires when the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, suddenly restored electricity on the line. Mr. Eze immediately got electrocuted and died instantly.
The Plateau state Police Public Relation Officer, Felicial Anslem, confirmed the incident on Wednesday; saying that further
investigations would be conducted by the police.
“He climbed the pole wire to switch to another phase which had light so that his shop could have light, and suddenly PHCN returned light to the former phase with high voltage and electrocuted him,” a witness narrated.
Another source who claimed to be the neighbour of the decease said he “heard a loud shout and rushed out to see a man on top of an electric pole with his shirt on fire; I did not even know that it was my neighbour; until PHCN officials and police men came to help bring him down.”
The area where the incident occurred, it was gathered, suffers from constant power outages.
The late Chukwuebuka Eze, according to his neighbours, was an electrician and usually fixed electrical problems within the area on commercial terms.
