No political motive behind Amaechi’s Convoy’s Accident – Rivers PDP

The Rivers State Government has said it does not think there was any motive behind the road accident along Port Harcourt International Airport Road involving the convoy of the state governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, on Monday.
Amaechi was on his way to the airport when a Toyota Avensis car with registration number AAA 767 AQ, coming from the opposite direction of the dual carriage way, rammed into the governor’s convoy and hit the back up vehicle of the Chief of Staff, Chief Tony Okocha.
Although the two vehicles were damaged, there were no casualties.
However, the driver of the saloon car was arrested by the governor’s security men and handed over to the police for interrogation.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, also confirmed the incident and said there was no casualty.
In her account of the accident, she said a vehicle on the opposite lane of the dual carriage way rammed into the Chief of Staff’s back up Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
She said they were all in the governor’s convoy heading to the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, when the incident occurred.
Asked if she suspected that the incident had anything to do with the political crisis in the state, Semenitari said it would be premature to link the incident to the issues in the state.
She said there was nothing to show that the driver of the vehicle that rammed into the governor’s convoy had any sinister motive.
“There was nothing to show that the owner of the car had any motive except the police come up with anything to the contrary,” she said.
The commissioner, however, expressed happiness that nobody in the convoy sustained injury.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe (DSP), said she was yet to be briefed by the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of the area where the incident happened.
