SSS nabs 2 fraudsters for sending threat, assassination messages
The State Security Service (SSS) in Delta on Wednesday in Asaba paraded two suspects for allegedly sending threat and assassination messages to unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspects, Christopher Nwankwo, 35, and Chinedu Uziogwe, 21, hail from Abia and Anambra, respectively.
The Delta State Director of the SSS, Mrs. Florence Ikanone, said the suspects resided in Port Harcourt and Enugu from where they sent out text messages and hacked into people's e-mails.
She said that Nwankwo was arrested for allegedly defrauding people through threat messages while Uziogwe was arrested for allegedly hacking e-mails.
Ikanone said that Nwankwo was arrested by the Delta Command operatives in liaison with the Rivers Command, following reports received from some of the victims in Delta.
Ikanone said that Nwankwo sent assassination threat messages with a view to defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of various sums of money.
“Items recovered from Nwankwo are an MTN SIM registration data form for residents of Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and others, 18 GSM phones with different SIM cards and two bank withdrawal booklets with different names,’’ she said.
The director said that Uziogwe was arrested in Enugu for allegedly defrauding one Mr Emmanuel Ogidi of N260,000 through hacking into his e-mail.
“Uziogwe was about withdrawing the sum of N430,000 from the said account when he was arrested.
“His accomplice, one Mr. Franklin Amobi has since been arrested and is currently in Ogwashi-Uku Prisons,’’ Ikanone said.
She said that the suspects had confessed to the crimes and would soon be charged to court.
