‘My Oga at the top’, Shem not sacked – FG

on MARCH 21, 2013 ·
The Federal Government said Wednesday, it had not taken any disciplinary action against the Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Obafaiye Shem, over the interview he granted a Lagos broadcast medium.
The government’s reaction followed claims that Shem had been sacked on the orders of the Minister of Interior, who supervises the NSCDC.
Findings by Vanguard revealed that contrary to the rumoured sack or suspension of the officer, who was becoming popular by the day as a result of the controversial but hilarious interview with Channels, the government had not taken any step to sanction him.

A source at the Interior Ministry told Vanguard on Wednesday that the minister had not at any time asked for the suspension of the said officer.
Speculations had become rife that Shem had been sacked and his family members stranded as a result of the disciplinary action by the government.
In fact, one account had it that the wife of the officer had even approached the television station to complain about the fate of his husband occasioned by the controversial interview.
“It is not true that the ministry of Interior has sacked or suspended the said officer.
“The man in question had taken permission to go and bury his father and there is no truth whatsoever in the wild allegation that the ministry of interior had sacked the officer,” a source close to the ministry said.
Shem, who resurfaced earlier in the week after burying his father,  was quoted as saying, ”I am still the State Commandant of NSCDC and I am determined to work hard to expose the vandals across the State.”
He denied claims that his wife visited Channels and complained about his fate, saying that his spouse was with him throughout the burial.
When contacted, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Interior, George Udoh, confirmed that Shem had not been suspended on sacked as claimed in the social media.
He however declined to give more details on the matter.
