The PDP chairman said 12 state lawmakers have revalidated their membership.
A factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Adamawa, Joel Madaki, on Tuesday directed political office holders elected on the platform of the party in the state to re-validate their membership as proof of loyalty to the party.
Mr. Madaki gave the directive at a news conference in Yola. The chairman heads a faction of the PDP loyal to the National Chairman of the party, Bamanga Tukur, and opposed to Governor Murtala Nyako. Mr. Nyako and six other state governors are members of the new PDP faction headed by Abubakar Baraje.
Mr. Madaki said the party needed to know who were its loyal members, and take appropriate action on those found wanting.
He said only 12 of the 22 PDP members in the state assembly had revalidated their membership and advised others from national to local government levels to do the same “before it is too late”.
He accused Governor Murtala Nyako of working against the party’s interest, alleging that the governor was represented at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It is a known fact that his Secretary to the Government and two commissioners in his cabinet represented him during the launching of APC and were given a standing ovation on hearing that they were there to represent Nyako at the occasion.
“The game plan at hand now is a deliberate act to weaken the PDP before Gov. Nyako makes a final bow out of PDP.
“That is the reason why they are giving un-attainable conditions,” Mr. Madaki said.
Reacting to the allegation, Ahmad Sajoh, the Director of Press Affairs to Mr. Nyako, said the governor had already made it clear that he would not leave PDP.
Mr. Sajoh said the presence of some of Mr. Nyako’s supporters in APC was factual because the governor had told his supporters that whoever could not bear the current crisis in PDP was free to seek alternative party.
