Nigerian Army deploys new commander to Plateau

Published:

Mr. Enitie is the 7th commander of the Jos STF.
The new commander of the Special Task Force, STF, on Plateau crisis, David Enitie, has assured residents of the state of their safety.
Mr. Enitie gave the assurance at the force headquarters in Jos, during the formal handing-over of the STF on Monday.
The soldier assured that he will consolidate on the efforts of the outgoing commander, Henry Ayoola, who, the new commander said, had done well in the discharge of his duties.
“I have been briefed by the outgoing commander and I assure you he has done well,” Mr. Enitie said.
He charged officers and men of the task-force to work in accordance with regulations setting up the command, stressing that much still needed to be done to restore peace in the state.
He solicited for the cooperation of members of the public to enable him discharge his duties as expected.
“My doors are open to you all, particularly members of the media,” he assured.
The outgoing STF boss, Mr. Ayoola, who has been redeployed to the Army headquarters to head the intelligence unit, thanked the residents of the state, heads of other security agencies, and the general public for the cooperation accorded him during his
service to the state.
“We have enjoyed a good synergy with other security agents and the Plateau public. I want to urge you to extend same to my successor,” Mr. Ayoola said.
Until his posting to Plateau State, Mr. Enetie was Deputy Director, Defense Headquarters. So far, he is the 7th commander of the Jos STF since its inauguration in the wake of increasing and persistent violence in the state since about 12 years ago that has led to the death of thousands of people.
Members of the task force have often been accused of aiding and abetting some of the criminal activities in the state; an allegation that has been vehemently denied.
However, some groups- particularly, indigenous women groups- have advocated the removal of the task-force from the state.
