Abiola Ajimobi and Rasheed Ladoja
A group, Oyo Development Initiative, has said a former governor in Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has no moral stance to question the current Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, over the building of a flyover bridge at Mokola area of Ibadan.
After the opening of the bridge, one of the barriers at the top fell owing to the impact from a truck that collided with it, which attracted criticisms from Ladoja’s Accord Party, among other groups.
In a statement by the group’s Coordinator, Adesola Okanlawon, on Tuesday, ODI asked Ladoja to reflect on the alleged financial pitfalls of his administration, adding that the N6bn allegedly pocketed by the former governor from the sale of the state’s shares would have been enough to build, at least, two flyover bridges in the state.
ODI described “the sustained criticism” of the recently opened flyover bridge in Ibadan as “destructive politics.”
The statement read, “We want to remind the former governor that if he had committed the N6bn realised from the sales of Oyo State shares to the construction of flyover bridges, he would have constructed, at least, two bridges, the size of the Mokola bridge,” the group said.
“If he had done that, flyover construction would have been the least of Ajimobi’s concerns now and he would have probably channelled the money used in constructing Mokola flyover bridge to other developmental projects yearning for attention.”
But a quick response from the former governor’s camp refuted the allegation, saying Ladoja never involved himself in any of the allegations.
