Wukari Violence: TY Danjuma Foundation Gives Succour To Ravaged Communities
The TY Danjuma Foundation (TYDF) has lent a helping hand to people displaced from their homes following the recent violent conflict that engulfed parts of Wukari local government area (LGA) in Taraba State.
LEADERSHIP reports that as a result of the conflict, numerous personswere displaced from their homes, while several properties were lost.The displaced persons have taken refuge in churches and mosques.
TYDF’s Taraba State Coordinator, MsFunmilola Janet Ajala led a team of the foundation’s staff alongside some of its grantees, state emergency officials, traditional rulers, government officials as well as other key stakeholders in the state.
“The TYDF team was accompanied by three of its grantees working in the state: the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN) which is based in Jalingo; Mfanyima Orphanage Foundation and Munayi Roots and Tuber Growers Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, both based and working in Wukari. Also, women representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); officials of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA); the CAN chairman in Wukari; the Muslim Council chairman; the protocol officer to the Aku Uka, paramount ruler of Wukari; the vice chairman of Wukari LGA and the leader of the Wukari local government area,” a statement from TYDF’s programme manager, Margaret Ya’u said.
The combined team visited three camps which include Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria (CRCN), Puje; Izala Mosque, Wukari; and CRCN, Naphon-Nghaku.
The items donated included bags of rice, beans, cassava flour, salt,sugar, tubers of yam, ‘pure water’, mats, blankets, buckets, cartons of toothpaste, rolls of toothbrush, cartons of washing soap, cartons of washing detergent, cartons of toilet soap, cartons of medicated soap, cartons of milk, branded water tanks for each of the camps and clean tap water for the tanks.
The Foundation’s state coordinator who presented the items on behalf of the Founder, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, the Trustees and the management and staff of the Foundation, informed the recipients that Gen. Danjuma was deeply saddened by the situation, and in a bid to ameliorate the sufferings of the people displaced by the crisis had instructed that the items be brought to them.
The two religious leaders and the people expressed their gratitude to Gen. Danjuma for his magnanimity.
