Traders Allege Sabotage In Ketu Market Fire Outbreak

Almost 12 hours after fire razed the Ketu plank market on Demurin Street in Kosofe local government area of Lagos State, fire-fighters are still struggling to put out the inferno as some affected traders alleged sabotage as the cause of the incident.
When our  reporter  visited the scene of the fire incident yesterday, thousands of people comprising of traders and sympathisers gathered at the scene, some trying to put out the fire using buckets, while others were seen gathering whatever remains in their burnt stores.
Also, plank cutting machines were damaged while most of the stores were completely burnt down. Many of the traders braved the hot charcoal and the still smothering fire to locate where once stood their multi million naira store. Strong smell of chemicals could also be perceived which could lead to environmental and health hazards on the neighbourhood.
“This is getting too much, two years ago this place was razed down, this is not an accident it is the work of our enemies, they don’t want us here and they think when they burn this place we would go away,” says Abiola Adebayo, who sold building materials in the market and claimed she lost more than N600, 000 worth of goods.
Another trader, Alhaja Modinat Lawal, said she lost over one million naira (1,000,000) and also alleged that the cause of the fire was sabotage by the enemy.
