Succession Race For Impeached Imo Dep Gov Begins

Following the impeachment of Imo State deputy governor Sir Jude Agbaso from office, it is just a matter of days before Governor Rochas Okorocha will have to choose his replacement.
Among the names that are being considered include the speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Ben Uwajimogu. The choice of Uwajimogu is considered vital to the survival of the Okorocha government and to save the speaker from being sacked due to his carpet-crossing to APGA from the PDP after winning the election.
It is believed that INEC is under pressure to declare his seat vacant for dumping the PDP. Those who favour Uwajimogu believe that having risked his head to support the governor, he should be rewarded and saved from the planned declaration of his seat as vacant in the Assembly.
our  reporter  gathered that the governor favours a man from Owerri zone where Agbaso hails to balance the political equation so that the zone would not feel marginalised in the sharing of political offices in the state.
Those who hold this view are looking in the direction of the governor’s chief of staff, Prince Eze Madumere, who hails from Mbaitoli in Owerri zone, or  Sir Jude Ejiogu, a prominent politician from Emekuku, also in Owerri zone.
If the candidature of the speaker from Okigwe zone sails through, it will upset the tacit political arrangement that seeks to balance political offices among the three zones of the state, leaving Owerri zone in the cold.
Those who believe in zoning may, after all, be disappointed by the governor since his emergence marked the end of the zoning system in the state.
