Diezani Meets Security Chiefs Over Oil Theft

Worried by the rising spate of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalisation, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, yesterday met with security chiefs to re-strategise on ways to address the menace.
The minister who briefly addressed journalists after a closed door meeting, which lasted about two hours with the security chiefs in her office in Abuja, promised that aggressive actions would be adopted to tackle the increasing spate of oil theft and pipeline vandalism in Nigeria.
She explained that very robust and implementable actions would come out of the meeting, which will cover the short and medium term plans to addressing oil theft challenge.
“We expect to see aggressive and fairly quick results out of some of the actions and others will look at medium and long term effect of protecting our core and critical national assets in the oil and gas sector,” the minister stated.
Dignitaries at the meeting include the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who was represented by a high-ranking police official, Chief of Naval Staff, Dele Ezeoba, and the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Ziakede Patrick Akpobolokemi.
