The much criticized State Waterways Security Committee has been reconstituted just as Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan warned that that they will be held responsible for any security breach in their areas.

The Governor who was represented by his deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, said the inauguration of the Committee was to further strengthened security measures in the state.
Gov. Uduaghan observed that the absence of the committee which was dissolved sometime ago had created a loophole and gap in security information gathering hence it was reconstituted.
He noted that security agencies alone could not deal with the rising security challenges, explaining that it was the responsibility of everyone in the state to play his or her role in helping security agencies do their work.
According to him, the work of the committee among other responsibilities include alerting relevant security agencies of any possible threat to peace and security in the state and also taking
necessary measures to nip such threats in the bud.
The governor stressed that since members of the committee were drawn from different communities and localities, it was incumbent on them to quickly alert the security agencies of acts likely to cause a breach of the peace in their areas.
He added that where a member who was aware of such a threat to peace in his area failed to take necessary measures that could have doused tension, such a member would be held liable.
“You are the eyes of the government in your respective areas and you will be held responsible for any security breach in your area. Sleep with your head, but your eyes must be open.”

“We have decided to step up the security measures in the state through this committee. Security concerns everybody. All hands must been on deck to address security challenges in Delta State. Members of this committee have responsibility to oversee security in the land as well
and they are to intervene once there is a threat,” he said.

According to him, “We know your track records. Ensure that there is peace in Delta State for development to take place. Once the state is fully developed, it will generate wealth and create job opportunities for our people and so you should know that your job is very vital.”

The Chairman of the Committee, Chief Emami Ayirimi, while speaking on behalf of his members expressed gratitude to the state government for the opportunity given to them to serve, saying that they will not disappoint the state government.”

The committee has Hon. Opudu M. Boro as Vice Chairman while the Permanent Secretary, Government House Annex Warri, Mr. Patrick Origho, will serve as Secretary.
