10th biennial Police Games: Zones 7, 9 begin in P/Harcourt

Competitions in the on-going Police Games “Port  Harcourt 2013” began in earnest at all venues yesterday, on a very high note, with athletes keenly contesting spiritedly in their events, to win precious medals for their respective Zones.
At the Liberation Stadium Elekahia, where the football tournament is being staged, four matches were played in the male category while two were in the female category.
In the first match of the day Zone 9 Umuahia walloped Zone 1 Kano 3 -1, to clinch the three maximum points.
In other results, Zone 7 Abuja defeated Zone 6 Calabar (the host Zone) 3:1, Zone 11 Osogbo beat Zone 4, Makurdi 3:1; while FHQ beat Zone 5 Benin 2:1.
In the female category, Zone 6 Benin walked over Zone 1, Kano; while Zone 2, Lagos defeated Zone 7, Abuja by 4:1.
Results of events competed for at the CivicCenter (Agbani Derego Sports Complex), hosting all Marshall Art, indicate that medalists have already emerged in Karate, Taekwondo, and Judo. In the +100Kg category of Judo, David Joseph of Zone 11 clinched the gold, while the silver went to Victor Nwaozuzu of Zone 9. The Kayode Oyewole of Zone 2 and Ojah Ekpenyong of Zone FHQ won bronze medals each.
