APC Denies Keyamo’s Adoption for Delta Senatorial Rerun

KEYAMO

The National Vice-Chairman South-south of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, at the weekend, denied the adoption of the human rights lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, as its candidate in the forthcoming by-election of the Delta Central senatorial seat, Delta State.
Ikimi, who stated this in a resolution adopted after a meeting of the three legacy parties, stressed that Keyamo was not adopted by the party.
He, therefore, dissociated the party from the reports that Keyamo had been adopted, pointing out while the APC “regrets the sudden and untimely death of Senator Pius Ewherido, who was representing the senatorial district before his death, the senate nor the INEC were yet to declare the seat vacant.”
According to the party leader, it would be premature and misleading for anyone to claim that he had been adopted for the senatorial contest”, he stressed.
Ikimi explained that the only organ that “has been put in place for the APC so far is the interim National Executive Committee led by Chief Bisi Akande as National Chairman. I serve in the committee as National Vice Chairman (South South).
“The party is in the process of putting in place state harmonisation committees in the 36 states of the federation, thereafter membership registration will commence nationwide leading to the holding of congresses at the unit, ward, local and state levels.
“A special case was that of Anambra State recently where membership registration was conducted by the APC across the state to enable the party hold direct primaries to elect a candidate for the governorship election slated for November this year.”
While the party awaits INEC and the senate to declare the Delta Central senatorial seat vacant soon, Ikimi urged the party members in the district to be law abiding and not “to engage in any act that would clearly be pre-emptive of due process and be seen to be disregard for laid down rules and regulations.”
“Therefore I appeal to those behind the said publications and reports to desist from acts capable of heating up the polity or even misleading well meaning Nigerians who have cultivated such a high level of confidence in the APC as the desired platform for positive change in our country.”
