Osun Signs Agreement For N14.7bn Osogbo East By-Pass Road •Construction Work To Be Completed In 12 Months

road constructionGovernment of the State of Osun has signed a N14.7 billion agreement with Messrs Slava-Yeditepe Projects Limited for the construction of 18-kilometre Osogbo East By-pass road.
The road, which starts from the roundabout along Iwo road, will pass through Ofatedo, to Ataoja Grammar School, through Ilesa road and terminates at Osogbo Stadium roundabout area.
Signing the agreement on behalf of the state government in Osogbo last Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Transport, Engineer Oladepo Amuda, stated that the project would be completed within 12 months in accordance with the agreement.
He added that in order to ensure that the project was not abandoned; the government has set aside 40 per cent of the contract sum to be paid as mobilisation fee, while all arrangements are being put in place to ensure that there is no delay in the release of funds to the contractors whenever it is required.
According to him, all the compensations for those whose properties were affected by the construction work along the axis have been fully paid, saying that the road is now free for the contractor to do his job.
Amuda also stressed that the local contents in-terms of workforce that will be considered for the project cannot be less than 60 per cent, saying that through this arrangement, artisans would be empowered, while skill and knowledge will be transferred to the people through the project.
He said: “This road will be the completion of the ring road around Osogbo. The scope of work being expected will entail virtually all the engineering works, when it comes to construction work.
“The duration for the completion of the project is just 12 months, the strategy of work has been fashioned out and the contractor is ready to map-out the strategy to realise the aim. Assurance has been given to the governor on it and the evidence to that effect has been showcased by the company,” he said.
The governor’s aide also stressed that the focus of the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola is to see that quality roads that will be a reference point to the whole world are provided for the use of the people of the state.
Responding, the representative of the company, Mr Anthony Aihie, stated that the award of the contract to Slava Yeditepe Project Limited was a privilege that would never be joked with.
He assured that the speed required for the project would be facilitated by the “unusual 40 per cent advance payment” by the government, promising that the company would ensure that it delivers good job to the government within the stipulated time frame.
Meanwhile, a visit to the site showed that the contractor has actually moved to site and site clearing has already commenced.
