Easter: Truck smashes FRSC official on duty
An over-speeding truck belonging to one Bolaji Rafiu, of 17 Imam Ojoku Str., Agege, Lagos on Saturday in Kogi State ran over and killed a Regular Marshal with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Iyakwo Danlami.
This happened as the Commission said it arrested 246 traffic offenders within the last two days of Easter holidays.
A statement issued by the commission's Public Education Officer, Mr Jonas Agwu, on Sunday said that 232 of the offenders had been convicted and fined by mobile courts, while 14 were cautioned and discharged.
It stated that the offenders were arrested in Kwara, Edo, Osun, Jigawa and Ekiti States for violating various traffic offences in the commission's ongoing nationwide special patrol for the Easter festivities.
The statement noted that speed limit violation, dangerous driving, over-loading and non-use of seat belt were the prevalent offences.
On the late Regular Marshal, Agwu said the officer was attached to the Zariagi Unit Command of the FRSC in Kogi, noting that the over-speeding truck, a Mercedes Benz with registration number, XB 30 KTU, knocked down and killed the officer along the Zariagi-Lokoja road while he was on special patrol.
The driver, it added, escaped after the incident but his boy was arrested and had been handed over to the “B” Division of the Nigeria Police in Lokoja for further investigation.
