World Cup Qualifier: Eagles need to be focused urges Nwosu
Lagos – Henry Nwosu, a former Chief Coach of the Golden Eaglets on Monday urged the Super Eagles to maintain a level of concentration that will guarantee victories in the two remaining group `F’ World Cup qualifying matches.
According to him, the team achieved a level of concentration that gave them 1-0 victory against the Harambee Stars of Kenya.
The 1-0 win gave them the three points that put them atop the group.
Nwosu in Lagos said that the technical crew, led by Stephen Keshi, would need to maintain and improve on the team’s level of determination.
Nigeria will be taking on Namibia in Wednesday’s qualification match in Windhoek.
“My advice to them is to approach the game the way they approached the match against Kenya with seriousness, determination and concentration.
“And been well focused, you know, those factors will helps us a lot,’’ he said.
Africa has 10 groups with four countries each while the country that tops in each of the groups would go into a play-off that would produce the five teams to fly Africa’s flag at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Nwosu, who was reacting to the fears that the process of qualification was cumbersome, noted that it would compel countries to work hard.
“You might say it is cumbersome but you just have to struggle to win to be there.
“At the end of the day you will not believe that you just qualified to the next group just like that, you have to work hard for it,’’ he said.
According to him, the play-offs will not be volatile because of the `must-win attitude’ of many Africa countries as there will be sanctions for misdemeanor.
“ I do not see how that will have much problem in the matches or their venues because CAF and FIFA are trying to curtail hooliganism in football,” he said.
The countries in group F are: Nigeria (eight points), Malawi (six points), Namibia (four points) and Kenya (zero point). (NAN)
