Defending champion Lucky Edovie has successfully defended his FHA Tennis Championship singles title, beating last year’s losing finalist Charles Didimakon 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Edovie, who claimed his fifth singles title with the defeat of Didimakon, capped a great tournament recently with the doubles crown, as he paired Evans Madu to beat the duo of Amobi Udoye and Evans Nwachukwu in the doubles final 6-3, 6-0.
After losing the first set 4-6, Didimakon powered back to win the second set 6-4 despite an injury worry that required medical attention for 10 minutes.
But the Delta-born Edovie brought his experience to bear in the third set as he recorded an emphatic 6-1 win over Didimakon to lift his third consecutive and fifth overall title.
Caesar Osubu won the veterans’ event, his sixth of the category. He also holds the joint record for most wins in the men’s singles event- six- alongside Emmanuel Dike.
In the table tennis category, Peter Okechukwu defeated Ralph Odunukwe 21-7, 21-13 in the final while Ezenwafor Emmanuel retained his Draught Grand Master title.
