Style is not about trends —Vimbai Mutinhiri

Background
I am Vimbai Mutinhiri. I was the Big Brother Africa Amplified housemate for Zimbabwe. I grew up in a country called Serbia in Eastern Europe. We moved around a lot because my father was an ambassador based in former Yugoslavia. I was born in Harare but I was soon to find myself in Belgrade because my father got posted there. I have an older brother and a sister but I have always preferred to be alone. I was also a tomboy and a bookworm who spent all the time reading and watching television. I went to school in the United Kingdom and South Africa; and read politics, philosophy and economics at the University of Cape Town. After graduation, I decided to settle for a career in entertainment. I have always been passionate about the entertainment industry.
Style
It is an external portrayal of one’s character. It is who you are. That part of you that people can observe. It is not about trends, although it is important to stay in line and be trendy; but true personal style is an expression of who you are.
Fashion
I love structured, well-fitting dresses. Also, well-tailored clothing. I have always loved colours especially on dark skin. I just shifted to big hair because I have been wearing my hair short for so long. I needed to do something different. Later, I may go back to my old hairstyle.
Sad note
I have had many sad moments but the one I would always remember is the death of my fiancé. We were engaged but he died in an auto crash. Getting over his death was not easy at all. I believe everything happened for a reason. I am grateful to God that He healed me and brought me to this point.
Favourites
I love jollof rice. I recently tried ogbono which I love very much. I like Nigerian food because it contains pepper. I know how to make okra soup and I sometimes make it with more pepper than I can handle.
Turn offs
I don’t like people who try to manipulate or use other people. The moment I see that somebody only wants to be around another person because they stand to benefit somehow, it puts me off.
Exercise
I do yoga. It tones and stretches the whole body and it refreshes the mind as well.
Life after Big Brother Amplified
I am having a fantastic time. I host a show on African Magic entertainment called, Star Gist. I was in Nigeria recently as a host of the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Love interest in the BBA House
What usually happens is that when you are in the Big Brother house for such a long time, you start seeing beauty where there is none. At that point, I thought Wendall was the greatest thing that ever happened to me and I said, “Thank you Jesus, this is the man!” But when I came out of the house, I thought to myself, “What was I thinking?” We are still very good friends though.
Relationship
I have had a relationship but I came out of it because it just was not working. It was a change, it is not easy to go from a normal life to the life of a celebrity and I have been throwing myself into my job. It is not easy for any man to make that transition and it became too much of a strain on the relationship.
Challenges
There are normal ups and downs but there has never been a challenge that I could not tackle. I have been living my dream since I came out of the BBA house. Stage frights? Yes, I have experienced stage fright sometimes when I am hosting shows. When people start relaxing and warming up to you, you start flowing with the performance but it is that first moment when you are not sure whether people would laugh at your joke that is always unnerving.
