ASABA-THE Asagba of Asaba, Obi ( Prof.) Chike Edozien, has said traditional burial rites, security challenges and land allocation matters will be addressed in Asaba this year.
The monarch disclosed the agenda for 2013 when the present and past executives of Ahaba 88 Club led by its President, Ogbuefi Frank Eluaka visited the Asagba’s Palace in Asaba on Monday.
The Asagba, who appreciated the contributions of the club to the development of Asaba, said the task before the council and the people of Asaba were how to review the burial rites to make it better and for Asaba to reflect  its current status as the state capital .
He said other challenges that needed to be addressed were the issues of land allocation and security, especially as it related to kidnapping and other violent crimes.
According to the royal father ,the aforementioned challenges have posed obstacles to the development of Asaba ,adding that attempts to settle land-related matters in the past were futile. He said burial rites were reviewed about three years ago, but there were grey areas that needed to be looked into to make them better and acceptable.
“Another issue is the problem of insecurity; most people could not come home this season for fear of being kidnapped and to address this, we have set up community policing to give support to the police,” he noted.
“And the other is land matters. Let us see how we can reverse some of our ancestral deeds and bring the lands in Asaba under the control of the Asagba-in-Council so that peace and development can come to Asaba”, he added.
Earlier, the President of the club had  pledged members’ commitment to the Asagba in Council’s development agenda.  “All your policies and changes made to develop Asaba are laudable and Ahaba 88 Club supports and welcomes the development and changes in Asaba,’’ Eluaka said.
Meanwhile, Asaba Christian Believers Association scheduled an end of year prayer session on Monday at the Asagba palace to usher in peace and development in Asaba in 2013. It is coordinated by Bishop Uche Eluaka.
